The Bay State
Massachusetts, one of five New England states, is a pleasant mix of scenic beauty and some of the oldest historic sites in the nation. The state's modern history began when the Mayflower first landed near the tip of Cape Cod at Provincetown and the Pilgrims' first colony at Plymouth in 1620. Today's historic settings take visitors to Plymouth Rock, on to Salem (famous for its witch trials) and one of America's oldest cities, Boston.
The state's wonderful landscapes stretch from the coastal shores of Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island, through the central Connecticut River Valley, to the western wooded mountains of the Berkshires.
