Located in Clear Creek Valley, the Georgetown Loop Railroad offers an exciting railway experience for the entire family. Connecting two historic mining towns, the narrow gage train chugs through a spectacular gorge setting, including horseshoe curves, grades up to four percent and a climb of 640 feet over the three mile run. Connecting Georgetown and Silver Plume, the excursion run takes about 75 minutes. Celebrating fall, October Fest and the Pumpkin Festival trains run every weekend in October. While a hay bale maze, face painting and treasure hunt entertain the kids, adults may enjoy a micro-brewed beer. In addition, free hot dogs and bratwurst will satisfy all those hunger pains.
Just a short drive from Denver, the Georgetown Loop Historic Mining and Railroad Park was formed in 1959. Along with the loop run, an optional walking tour of the Lebanon Silver Mine leads visitors 500 feet into an 1870s mine. Here you'll witness the rich veins of silver that prospectors worked over 140 years ago. Mine temperatures remain at a constant 44 degrees, one way to get cooled off on a hot afternoon.
Pictured here is the Georgetown Loop Train crossing the dramatic Clear Creek Gorge over the famed Devil's Gate High Bridge. The entire railroad loop is an engineering marvel, requiring trestles, cuts and fills, and over three miles of track just to cover the two miles between the depots. Here on the loop, you’ll enjoy the splendid Rocky Mountain scenery, plus fun a filled day of mining and railroading history.
