One of West Virginia’s premier state parks, Pipestem Resort Park has been voted as one of the best vacations destinations in the state. The resort wows its guests with stunning canyon views, the beautiful Long Branch Lake and first class amenities. Centered on a rugged gorge over a thousand feet deep, the park’s 4000 acres are surrounded by additional forestland and wildlife management areas.
Coupled up with the Bluestone National Scenic River and Bluestone State Park, this Summers County park has been declared outstanding by its many fans.
A sportsman’s (or should I say sports-person?) paradise, park amenities include golf, fishing, boating, hiking, riding stables and a nature center. For overnight guests, two lodges, 26 cottages, and 82 campsites are available. For a little more solitude, Mountain Creek Lodge guests may take the Pipestem Aerial Tramway for their overnight stay. Starting at the Canyon Rim Center, the trams descends a thousand feet to the canyon floor, crosses the Bluestone River, and climbs back up to the secluded lodge. Afraid of heights? Don’t worry, the park offers other options.
Curious about the Pipestem name? We are told the park is named for the narrow leaf meadowsweet, commonly called the pipestem. And yes, it was actually used for a pipe stem at one time.
