Scenic USA - Utah Moab Rim Trail |
Photos by Bob Fagley |
The Moab Rim Trail, just west of the famous Utah Canyonlands town, is a G rated trail. This particular G rating stands for gut-busting, a four-wheeling experience you won't forget. And many of the vehicles leaving there have the scars to prove it. From Moab, the trailhead is just a few miles along Kane Creek Road, and the beginning to a rugged four-wheel-drive trip along the Moab Rim that overlooks the Colorado River.
The Rim Trail is one of the area's favorites stops for 4WD enthusiasts, as well as mountain bikers, hikers and sightseers. The initial steep grade is quite a challenge as it climbs over 900 feet in a short mile. Once on top, Moab Valley, the Colorado River and Utah's Arches National Park come into view. Native American petroglyphs and ruins add another element of intrigue to the area for those wanting to explore the cliff-sides. The roundtrip distance along the rim trail is about 10 miles, with an elevation change of 1400 feet. It's just one of many canyonland trails in and around Moab.
