The Indian Creek Scenic Byway, a 40 mile long official state byway, primarily follows Six Shooter Peaks from the Highway Utah's SR-211. For those sightseers who can't get enough of the state's southeastern canyonlands district, sometimes another unofficial addition to the scenic byway includes US-191, from Monticello northward to Route 211. The entire area is filled with Newspaper Rock and Onlookerdramatic canyonland scenery, historic sites and a fantastic mix of geological wonders.
Some of the outstanding features along this stretch of highway include Newspaper Rock, Six Shooter Peaks, Dugout Ranch, the Anticline Overlook and the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. To the south lie the Abajo Mountains and it's the Abajo Scenic Backway that winds its way through the Manti-La Sal National Forest. This view pictured here from highway 211 offers a sense of how the dramatic bare rock cliffs quickly rise from the valley floor. This is an impressive drive, which comes to an end at the Needles District and features another one of Utah's ever popular national park units.
