While the Space Needle has attracted a considerable amount of attention for the last 50 years and remains one of the most recognizable structures in the world, Seattle's Bell Street Pier revitalization project has gathered much attention. Learning from mistakes during previous attempts in the late 70s and early 80s, the Bell Street and Pier 66 project reconnects the city to the waterfront. Intended primarily for the use and enjoyment of Seattle residents, the project blends together commercial maritime industries with recreation and retail outlets.
Once cut off by a major thoroughfare and a 50 foot bluff, the complex scheme now offers a permanent right of way, unobstructed views of Bell Harbor and a mile and a half urban trail. Featuring a conference center, area restaurants and a unique rooftop deck, the waterfront is all tied together by a grand stairway to the waterfront.
Here in the heart of Seattle’s cultural district a full moon and star lit sky appear over eleven acres of a pleasant blend of the old and new. One of the nice features at the pier, the Bell Harbor Marina offers guest boat slips that range from 30 to 100 feet, making it easy to dock and walk to the Seattle Center, the Space Needle, the famous Pike Place Market and the Seattle Aquarium.
Although Elliott Bay hosts one of the busiest ports in the world, visitors can still find green space and jogging paths at a harbor that's filled with sights and sounds of maritime traffic.
