Scenic USA - Maine Hendricks Head Lighthouse |

The Hendricks Head Light-Station, remaining in private hands for nearly 85 years, can be viewed by boat or from a beach at West Southport. This scenic setting shows off Ben and Luanne Russell's 1991-93 renovations. Taking over the property and its light-station structures from Dr. Wm. Browne, the Russell's picture perfect lighthouse has attracted the attention of the Travel Channel's Samantha Brown and was featured on the series Amazing Vacation Homes.
Found among Maine's long list of lighthouses, the Hendricks Head Lighthouse was built in 1929, marking the point where mariners were led into the Sheepscot River. The late 1800s structures, including a barn, fog bell tower, oil house and second generation lighthouse, are all part of the scenic attraction. Fascinating tales of daring rescues and popular old yarns are also part of the allure. One of the longtime light-keepers, Wolcott Marr, holds the unusual distinction of being born, married and having died here in the same light-station room.
