Formed by the Toccoa Electric Power Company in 1930, Lake Blue Ridge is one of Georgia's most picturesque mountain lakes. Surrounded by the Chattahoochee National Forest, the Blue Ridge Reservoir winds its way through the mountains for 11 miles. Walleye, white bass, catfish and perch keep anglers active in the spring and fall. Its clear aquamarine waters attract boaters and vacationers throughout the summer.
About an hour and a half from Atlanta, this area of northern Georgia offers some of the best mountain vacationing in the southeast. State parks, countless waterfalls, Toccoa River tubing, camping areas and the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail attract plenty of summer guests. Adding more charm to the area, the historic district of Blue Ridge is home to antique stores, craft and souvenir shops, and the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway.
Although built to supply hydro-electric power to the surrounding region, Blue Ridge Lake seems custom built for water sports. Taking advantage of the glassy surface and less lake traffic, power boats often begin ski sessions early in the morning. With its steep shoreline and deep waters, obstacles for boats and skiers are few. Beginners or pros, Lake Blue Ridge is one of the area’s best lakes for water-skiing activities.
