Scenic USA - Alabama Hurricane Creek |

Here in north-central Alabama, evidence shows that Hurricane Creek had enough energy to carve out a sizable chunks of land in the Brindle Mountains. It may be hard to believe that today's docile creek was ever up to hurricane strength, let along having the force to slice open 500 foot dee gorge and push around house-size boulders. But seeing is believing, and no doubt when conditions are extreme, the creek lives up to its name.
Just north of Cullman, where the Southern Appalachian Mountains have been worn into foothills, the day-use park offers a chance to enjoy the nature and the outdoors. Park goers will find a three mile web of trails surrounding the creek and gorge, creating a haven for hiking and exploration. A family fun day at the park includes a descent into the gorge through Twilight Tunnel & Heavens Staircase. Passing shear cliff walls before reaching the canyon bottoms, hikers will get occasional glimpses of an inviting Hurricane Creek and waterfalls. In addition to hiking, visitors may enjoy rock climbing, picnicking, and bird-watching. Admission to the park is free, and it is open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day.
