Land of Lincoln

Illinois, one of the Great Lake States, is best known for America's most popular president, Abraham Lincoln. The nation's 16th president built his impressive political career over 30 years in Illinois.
Also called the Prairie State, scenic attractions range from the megatropolis of Chicago to the vast expanses of Midwest farmland. Its ties to the water stretch across the state, from the banks of Mississippi all along the western border, to the Ohio River in the south and the shores of Lake Michigan in the north.
Although U.S. Route 66 was officially removed from the national highway system, its spirit lives on, and Illinois contributes its share of nostalgic attractions long the beginning of the Mother Road.
