The Aloha State
Made up of a large volcanic island chain, the Hawaiian Islands were added as an America state in 1959. With the ease of modern air travel, tourism became the islands' chief industry. Its surrounding clear blue waters, majestic mountain peaks, dramatic waterfalls and lush tropical forests draw over 20 million tourists every year. The chain's seven distinct islands share their history, beautiful multi-colored sand beaches, museums, golf courses and a wide variety of parks with world travelers.
Hawaii's seven national park sites acquaint visitors with its present and ancient volcanic past, as well as its cultural history.
Niihau (The Forbidden Isle) is privately owned and Kahoolawe (The Target Isle) is uninhabited.
