The First State
Delegates from Delaware were the first to ratify the United States Constitution. In 1787, Delaware became America's First State. Today, Dover's historic districts and the First State Heritage Park are great places to get acquainted with the state's history, its wonderfully preserved capital complexes, charming streets and colonial homes. Delaware's seafaring roots date back to the 1600s, seen throughout the coastal towns of Lewes and Rehoboth Beach.
Billed as The Summer Capital, Delaware beach resorts entice visitors from all the surrounding states, including Washington D.C. The State is also a haven for park goers, with 15 state parks, three scenic byways and wildlife preserves. Delaware's three counties divide the state into distinct regions, offering four seasons of fun.
