As with many successful projects, Overly’s Country Christmas started off small, and with a great deal of passion it has grown into today’s delightful Christmas Village. During the first three decades, Harry Overly’s Armbrust home was the Christmas lighting attraction in the county, with each year’s display a little more extravagant. Over a 35 year period, interest in Overly’s holiday light exhibit raised nearly a million dollars for the Free Care Fund at the Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital. In 2000, a charitable pilot group focused on ways to improve family bonding and communication, and created the Family Moments Program. Today, 1500 families and their children have the opportunity to visit the Christmas Village as guests of the Family Moments Holiday Program.
   A heart attack brought a temporary halt to Harry's annual light show, until friends, neighbors and acquaintances took over the yearly holiday tradition. Looking for more space, Overly’s Country Christmas finally settled on the Westmoreland Fairgrounds in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, for their annual display.
   Today at the Fairgrounds, Overly’s Country Christmas continues as a tribute to Harry Overly who died at age 68. Carrying on as Harry had dreamed, visitors will find a five acre Christmas Village, one of the largest G-gauge trains displays at Hartman Station, Santa’s Workshop and a life-size traditional Christmas nativity scene. Guests may also warm by a holiday bonfire while enjoying Christmas carols and hot chocolate. Edgar & Sons General Store, the Sweet Shoppe and Country Kitchen will certainly satisfy your hunger and help fill the items on your holiday shopping list.
