Upon arrival, anyone unfamiliar with the Lake Chicot area has to have them thinking, WOW ... what a huge lake! Made up of an immense oxbow, cut from off the Mississippi River centuries ago, Lake Chicot has all the features of a broad river without the daily through traffic. Shaped like a huge letter C, Lake Chicot is the largest natural lake in Arkansas.
Lined with lake-front homes all along Lakeshore Drive, park goers will find Lake Chicot State Park at the northern end of the big crescent. Heading to the top of the 20 mile long lake, you'll notice most park visitors arrive with boating and fishing on their minds. Seasonal catches of crappie, brim and bass are found throughout the lake, while catfish are caught throughout the year. The lakeside marina not only offers fuel, food and bait, but provides boat and personal watercraft rentals. Sounding more and more like a week's worth of fun? Park guests will find picnicking and pavilion facilities, plus a campground area. Spread under a pecan grove, camp and RV sites range from class AAA through class C. Park cabins offer kitchens, fireplaces, fishing docks and plenty of lakeside views.
The Arkansas Delta Region is considered a wildlife paradise. Migratory birds, such as ducks and geese, often winter somewhere in the Delta. Located on the Mississippi Flyway, the Lake Chicot Park offers some of the best bird watching sites in the area. Visiting local Civil War sites can be a nice change of pace from a week-long menu of jet skiing, boating and fishing.
