Pine Creek Gorge, located in Tioga County, is sometimes referred to as the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. This scenic view takes in a sliver of the 162,000 acre Tioga State Forest and Pennsylvania's well-managed hardwood and conifer forest. Cited as a geological wonder and noted for it exceptional scenery, the National Park Service designated a 12 mile section of the canyon as a National Natural Landmark. With state parks located on each canyon rim, sightseers are guaranteed a remarkable Grand Canyon experience.
Here in Leonard Harrison State Park a canyon overlook offers a bird's-eye view of Pine Creek Gorge and its distinct 800 to 1000 foot drop to the river below. For those wanting a closer look, hikers may opt for the Turkey Path Trail as it descends to the canyon floor from Leonard Harrison State Park on the east rim. Colton Point State Park, with its charming 1930s era Civilian Conservation Corps facilities, offers similar views from the west rim. Both parks are located near Ansonia, Pennsylvania, and offer over 20 miles of trails, as well as boating, swimming, hiking and camping opportunities.
