There's a fairly large cluster of parks in the Evergreen area known as the Denver Mountain Parks, or simply Front Range parks. Located south of Interstate 70 and just beyond the reaches of the Denver area, this popular get-away attracts more than two-million metro residents every year. Covering more than 14,000 acres, the area includes 46 regional parks and boasts of a 230 mile trail system. Varying from 25 acres to 2400 acres, a few of these parks date back to the early 1900s.
   Located in the same area as the Denver Mountain group, and a jewel of the Jefferson County Open Space system, Three Sisters Park is also located near Evergreen. Thanks to land purchases and generous donations from the E.J. Alderfer and Spencer Wyant families, the park now is a haven for wildlife and old stands of ponderosa pine. Known for the most trails per acre of any foothills park, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and climbing are among the favorite activities. Hiking trails include a two mile trail to the Evergreen Mountain summit where views extend all the way to the Continental Divide.
   The park features four rock outcroppings called the Three Sisters and the Brother. These park landmarks are made up of metamorphic rock which date to the Precambrian Era, consisting mostly of silver plume quartz. The easy climb on the Brother’s Lookout Trail leads to the top of the Brother outcropping, rewarding hikers with a panoramic view of the Mt. Evans Wilderness, the Bear Creek Basin, and the town of Evergreen. Rumor has it Brother’s Lookout is also a wonderful place for a marriage proposal.
