Thanks to a group of hard working park service staff members, a well put together program at this Maryland park managed to lure in a large cast of anxious anglers. A Saturday fishing derby introduced an eager group of youngsters to the Martinak State Park and the idea of patience.
The park land, once property of George Martinak, was deeded to the state in 1961. This Eastern Shore park takes in a section of the Choptank River and Watts Creek. Here access is provided to the Choptank and Tuckahoe Rivers Water Trail, where an 80 mile route passes through the heart of Maryland's Eastern Shore. The Water Trail, designed for canoes, kayaks and small boats, can be accessed at 29 sites along the waterway.
The park's modern camping facilities include over 60 sites. A handful of camping cabins are also available, with one full service cabin overlooking the river. The park is located near Denton, just off Maryland's Route 440.
