A privately owned park located in Pennsylvania's Bushkill Creek - Bushkill Falls Park, Bushkill, Pennsylvania Pocono Mountains Region, Bushkill Falls has been touted as the Niagara of Pennsylvania since the early 1900s. The dramatic main falls, the highlight of the park, is powered by the meek sounding Little Bushkill Creek. Trails and stairways are built all around the falls area, and those with the time and sturdy legs may take in eight separate waterfall features. Two miles of hiking trails follow Pond Run and Bushkill creeks, which join together below the main falls and flow out through the Poconos Mountains Upper Canyon - Bushkill Falls Park, Bushkill, Pennsylvania and eventually meet the Delaware River.
Bushkill Falls was opened to the public in 1904 when Charles E. Peters established the first trails to the 100 foot falls. The falls park, open for over a century, still remains in the Peters family.
The park fees may open the eyes of some visitors and bring on a new appreciation of the state parks system in Pennsylvania where there are no entrance fees or day use fees for any state park. The Bushkill Park also offers fishing ponds, a maze, paddle boats, miniature golf, and educational exhibits that feature Native American history and area wildlife. Early birds will have to wait outside the park until 9:00 am when the park opens.
