Scenic USA - Washington Deception Falls |

Coming in from the east, U.S. Route 2 climbs over Cascade Range at Stevens Pass where the highway tries to keep pace with the sharp contours of the earth. Dropping along with Washington State’s Skykomish River, the highway descends quickly as it heads toward the Puget Sound. Here in the forestland of the lower Cascade Mountains, a handful of notable waterfalls, including Alpine Falls, Sunset Falls, and Wallace Falls, tug at a sightseer’s attention. Trying to pay close attention to driving along this scenic highway, it's easily to pass any of these roadside wonders. As in the case of Deception Falls, the upper falls and Deception Creek flow right under the highway without much fanfare.
From the Deception Falls Picnic Area, a short loop trail follows along Deception Creek and the Tye River under a shady canopy of moss covered trees. The falls is the last cascade of the creek before it joins the swift flowing Tye River. This half-mile, self-guided nature loop is an easy hike, a great family outing which leads to both lower and upper falls.
