Catching this wave is far from any beachside resort, and by the way, it includes a six mile roundtrip desert trek as well. With a little bit of luck (there are a limited number of permits), a determined will and a good sense of direction, Coyote Buttes guests are guaranteed to be thrilled with their encounter with these sweeping sandstone waves.    North Coyote Buttes falls under protection of the Paria Canyon - Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area. It is said that the trail to Coyote Buttes is only revealed after permits are secured. Rangers remind all hikers to pack out everything they brought in and trail conditions change continually. During the most popular spring and fall seasons, temperatures can be pleasant and temperatures ideal. During the summer months the hike can be extremely hot. The slickrock terrain radiates the heat in an already treeless desert locale. Thunderstorms and lightning can also be troublesome and roads in the area may become virtually impassable after a rain shower.
