A fascinating page from American history, vintage steam engines continue to thrill passengers throughout the country. More than 40 different rail lines feature these fiery behemoths on seasonal excursion trips. Now it's off to Strasburg's Short Line Railroad in Pennsylvania, offering a 45 minute rail ride through Lancaster County. This historic railroad is one oldest and most popular railroads in the country. The train, pulled by several steam locomotives, rolls through scenic landscapes of Pennsylvania and among its contoured farmlands, passing by picturesque barns, well kept farms and charming small towns.
More fun for railroad buffs, the enormous Strasburg Railroad Museum and rail-yard is top notch! The site is steeped in vintage railroad equipment, mammoth locomotives, nostalgic Pullman cars and rail mementos.
Pictured here is
Engine CN 911 taking the bend on Long's Curve. The relic was built by the Canadian Locomotive Company and brought into the states in 1961. Luckily its last 46 years have continued on the Strasburg Line, part of the fleet that's entrusted with showing off the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside.
