Real estate slumps, health concerns and cost of living increases have taken a big chunk out of cruise line profits, but here in Central Florida you'd hardly notice any slowdown. The bustle at Port Canaveral continues as super-ships cruise in and out of the Port on their way to some of the most popular Caribbean destinations and Mexican coastal resorts.
Pictured here are two of Port Canaveral's super-sized ships. The Disney's Magic stretches out for almost 1000 feet, with 877 staterooms spread out on a dozen decks. Major cruise lines offer three, four and seven day cruises. Single day cruises are also a popular get-away at Florida's Port Canaveral.
These immense cruise ships also share harbor space at the port area with pleasure craft, shrimp boats, shipping vessels, Navy submarines, oil barges and gasoline tankers. Central Florida's newest attraction, the Exploration Tower, was one of the best places to catch a birds-eye-view of the entire port area. Officially opened in November, 2013, the Exploration Tower housed seven floors of exhibits and interactive stations. Even though the tower is closed at this time, visitors will always find other Port Canaveral venues, charter boats and restaurants to visit.
