Flowing down from the western side of Washington's Cascade Range, three forks of the Snoqualmie River join together near the town of Snoqualmie. The North, Middle and South forks give all the power needed to create a thunderous attraction, Snoqualmie Falls. Upstream, on the South Fork, Interstate 90 takes advantage of a natural cut through the mountains at Snoqualmie Pass, where the highway hugs each side of the canyon walls. Down below and well hidden from view is the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River. Not as popular as the 270 foot Snoqualmie Falls, but the river creates another elegant waterfall and scenic roadside attraction. Just underneath the highway, the beautiful Franklin Falls is centered between east and westbound traffic lanes.
Denny Creek Road, also designated as NF-5830, winds alongside the edge of the Snoqualmie River and follows a similar route that early pioneers used more than a hundred years ago. The Franklin Falls Trail leads through an old growth forest, tracing the river to the base of the falls. Overhead, thousands of cars travel the Mountains to Sound Greenway ... unaware of the falls below.
