Rocky Mountain National Park is the park for hikers, with a wide variety of trails ranked from easy to strenuous. Here in the heart of the Rockies, snow-capped peaks paint an awesome backdrop for the park's 360 miles of trails. Suitable for families, one of the easiest waterfall hikes in the park follows Glacier Creek as it ascends through the aspens on the way to Alberta Falls. This well-worn path is located near the end of Bear Lake Road, a very popular destination in the park.
Exploring the rest of the park, Trail Ridge Road winds takes visitors from Estes Park, Colorado, in the east, over the Continental Divide to Kawuneeche Valley in the west. Trail Ridge Road, one of the highest paved highways in America, reaches a peak elevation of 12,183 feet. The majestic views can leave a lasting impression, and one visit to this national park is not nearly enough time to experience this georgeous Rocky Mountain Park scenery.
To reach Alberta Falls, follow Bear Lake Road near the Beaver Meadows entrance station, located at the east end of the park. This area is very popular and causes severe traffic congestion during the peak season. Arrive early, or consider the free park shuttle bus which runs every 10 to 15 minutes. When small children are in tow, keep in mind the trail has a few different branches and those young eager hikers may not pay strict attention to trail signs. Also, this is not a theme park, so be mindful that this is a natural setting were dangers exist.
