Main Street - The Grove, Texas

   Located a few miles from Texas State Highway 36, The Grove, which most people come in to see, is famous for a small Dube General Store and Post Office - The Grove, Texas cluster of Main Street buildings in Coryell County, Texas. Beginning as a small town during the late 1850s, its name came from a nearby grove of live oak trees. With a population hovering around 150 people, the town earned a post office in 1874. Residents relied on two general stores, grocery stores, a mill, and a cotton gin. Children either attend a two-teacher public school or a Lutheran private school. At its peak, the town's population topped out with about 400 people. Bypassed by a modern highway in the 1940s, the community began its steady decline.
   The St. Paul Lutheran Church still serves the community today, sometimes described as only a WJ Graham Store - The Grove, Texas handful of people. Many of original buildings on Main Street still stand, and some have been restored. About halfway between Temple and Gatesville, the town is compared to Luckenbach, when bands play nearly every weekend. Weddings, anniversaries and other parties are held at The Grove, and the Cocklebur Saloon can be rented for festive occasions. The town also come comes to life when locals come for Jamboree night the third Saturday of each month.
