Humboldt Redwoods - Humboldt County, California But here it doesn’t matter which trees hold any particular record, when standing beside some of California's redwoods on the Avenue of Giants visitors find these skyscrapers of the forest simply incredible. Just imagine, some of these ancient redwoods date back to the time when Romans ruled the world around the Mediterranean Sea.
In a coastal region along the Pacific, from Crescent City in the north to 75 miles south of San Francisco near Santa Cruz, California's iconic redwoods are the main draw for 40 state parks and state natural reserves. When visitors ask where the best place to see these remarkable giants, they're often directed to Humboldt County and the Avenue of Giants. Richardson Grove - Humboldt County, California Anchored by Humboldt Redwoods State Park, (the world's largest stand of redwoods), the Avenue of Giants parallels Highway 101 for over 30 miles. Here in the floodplain of the Eel River, more than 17,000 acres of ancient redwoods provide one of the grandest shows for nearly a million visitors every year. Two miles south of Weott, the Humboldt Redwoods Visitor Center offers a slideshow, environmental displays, videos and trail access to the land of giants. The visitor Center is a great place to stretch your legs, enjoy a picnic lunch and appreciate some of the greatest wonders on earth.
