Scenic USA - Florida Wakulla Springs |
Photos by Lou Kellenberger |
According to Florida's Native Timucuan Indians, the Wakulla Springs area may have been a place of strange and mysterious waters. Florida's
largest springs continue to defy logic and common sense when it comes to the vast quantities of water that continually pump up out of the ground. The Wakulla River, mostly made up of spring water, is fed from one of the largest and deepest natural freshwater springs in the world. Imagine a spring that pumps out 400 million gallons of water every day.
At the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park, crystal clear water provides an inviting river for kayaks, canoes and glass-bottom boat tours. Continuing a tradition since 1875, daily tours boats cruise through a well preserved Wakulla River and among a semi tropical landscape. River wildlife includes wading birds, alligators, turtles and fish, helping paint a natural Florida river scene.
