Scenic USA - Iowa Roseman Bridge |

Winterset's annual covered bridge festival, held the second weekend in October, usually coincides with the arrival of Iowa's autumn colors. The Roseman Bridge, one of six remaining bridges on the tour, was refurbished in 1992. The 107 foot bridge crosses Madison County's Middle River. Its unusual, almost flat roof is only seen on two other of the Madison County's bridges.
Built in 1883, Iowa's Roseman Covered Bridge is not only one of the highlights of the covered bridge tour, and became more popular when the movie Bridges of Madison County was released. Even though its debut was 20 years ago, some motion picture buffs can still recall the bridge scene in the movie. Winterset, the county-seat community, is just minutes away from I-35 and I-80, but somehow has managed to retain its quaint home-town feel and small-town charm. Winterset is also a good starting point for bridge fans to get information and directions to the county's bridges and other historic sites.
