A nature lover’s paradise, park personnel at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park are happy to point visitors toward one of the premier trails in the park. Although it's a short hike, trail #9 can be somewhat challenging. The tight pathway, high above the Cumberland River, follows alongside spectacular sandstone cliffs and under rock ledges. Once the trail descends the steep cliff-face by way of a metal staircase to a secluded glen and Eagle Falls, hikers will better understand the warning that the Cumberland River sometimes submerges the Eagle Falls trail. After a little bouldering and wandering among house-sized river rocks, the beautiful falls comes into view.
   Spectacular views of the Cumberland Falls along trail #9 are an added bonus on this hike. From this elevated perch, distant views of the incredible thundering falls appear in openings between the tree-lined pathway. Several viewpoints afford visitors great photo ops of the Cumberland River and the park's centerpiece, the Niagara of the South.
