Two distinct sections of the Shikellamy State Park offer a wide variety of activities featuring the park's centerpiece ... the Susquehanna River. At river level, one section the park houses a 23 slip marina and access to this river playground. Formed by an inflatable dam, the Susquehanna has been turned into a 1200 hectare lake. Besides being popular with boaters and water skiers, Lake Augusta is a great fishing area, loaded with bass, walleye, muskies, pike and catfish.
This central Pennsylvania scene catches the evening sun over the confluence of West and North Branches of the Susquehanna River. Two overlooks, from up on top of the 78 acre hilltop section, are perched 360 feet above the river, offering views of Northumberland and Sunbury. A purely volunteer effort, the Friends of Shikellamy State Park have revitalized the park. Along with maintenance projects, the Friends have brought in live entertainment, given boating and fishing clinics, and put on community art festivals.
