With its best examples
at the Glorious T, the village streets of Montour Falls are lined with a pleasant mix of architectural styles, varying from the clean lines of the craftsman to the ornate designs of Greek Rival and Victorian. Where West Main Street meets Genesee Street, at the town's Glorious T, mid 19th century homes surround the 156 foot Shequaga Falls.
Placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1978, the Village of Montour Falls offers a self guided tour of their historic district. The audio journey is free, accessed via your cell phone and lasts about 25 minutes. Noteworthy stops include the sheriff’s office, Montour Falls Memorial Library, and the silvery domed Montour Falls City Hall (inset photo).
Pictured here is the Lee-Jackson house found just to the left of the Shequaga Falls Park. To the right, town visitors will find a fine example of Greek Revival architecture. Built in 1845, the historic William T. Jackson house is one of two dozen nationally recognized homes in town, said to be one of the most photographed structures in New York.
Here at the Glorious T a waterfall pours down the cliff, seemingly in their backyards. Known as Tumbling Waters to Native Americans, Shequaga Falls is sometimes called Montour Falls by those struggling with the Indian name. A neighborhood park is built at the base of the falls, highlighting this beautiful natural setting. Up on top, Mill Creek Bridge spans the head of the falls, offering another breathtaking view down on the town and waterfall.
