At Ron Jon it’s all about surfing, water sports, beachwear, and fun in the tropical sun. Pictured here is the Cocoa Beach Ron Jon, an icon of the Southeast seen on billboards up and down I-95 for hundreds of miles. Enjoying the fact its logo is recognized the world over, this flagship store is one of a string that begins in Canada, heads southward to cover the coast, and offering shops as far as Mexico, Grand Turk, and the Turks and Caicos islands.
   Setting up shop on the New Jersey coast in 1959, young Ron DiMenna followed his passion for surfing and heeded his dad’s advice. Buy three, sell two at a profit, then yours will be free. With the advent of fiberglass and foam-core boards, surfing soared in popularity. It soon became a lifestyle on the beach. Surf music from the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean only fanned the flames. When the cry surf's up, half the students of Cocoa Beach High School would hit the beach. It's here on Cocoa Beach's 4th Street North where surf-king Kelly Slater took on his first waves.
   Today, Ron Jon's stands out among the competition. Advertising a store that never closes, Ron Jon's has grown over the last 50 years into a mega-store with just about everything beach-related.
