Hidden in a huge jumble of well-weathered rocks, Robbers Cave adds an air of mystique to an already beautiful park setting. Said to be an outlaw hideout, Old West legends place Belle Starr and Jesse James in this Sans Bois Mountains locale during the late 1800s.
Attracting thousands of visitors every year, today's park goers take to these scenic hills over biking and equestrian trails. Visitors also find themselves accepting a challenging climb to Robbers Cave and enjoying the marvelous view from up on the ridge. Aside from the marked trail to the cave, weekend climbers try top-roping, lead climbing, and bouldering. With some of the most diverse rock formations in the area, climbs in the park may reach 50 to 60 feet.
Joining the company of Quartz Mountain Resort Park and Beavers Bend State Park, Robbers Cave is one of Oklahoma's most popular parklands. The 8000 acre park offers all types of camping, ranging from modern RV sites to primitive camping. Fully equipped cabins and the Belle Starr View Lodge provide comfortable lodging. The park's swimming pool, beach, a handful of ponds and lakes, group picnic shelters, miles of trails, miniature golf and riding stables help crown this park The Queen of Recreation.
