Scenic USA - Indiana Bartholomew County Mail Pouch Barn |

Enduring for nearly a century, the classic Mail Pouch slogan is slowly fading away. This roadside icon of the 20th century has attracted more photographers and artists than any other commercial enterprise. Decorating barns in 22 states across America, the Bloch Brothers ad became a familiar sight from South Carolina to California.
Among the Indiana fields of corn, wheat, soy beans and sunflowers, this Bartholomew County barn still bears the unmistakable Bloch Brothers slogan. Last painted in 1986, the faded barn still captures much attention. Although other sides are painted barn red, the Mail Pouch slogan was thought to display best on a background of black.
Similar to covered bridge fans, Mail Pouch barn aficionados have devoted their spare time seeking out these nostalgic relics. Although the number of barns has slowly dwindled over the years, many documented barns survive in good condition. Some repainted at the owner’s expense. Turning into a passion for some, collecting photos of Mail Pouch barns may lead to a rewarding hobby.
