Scenic USA - Georgia Minnehaha Falls |

One of a dozen named waterfalls in the area, Minnehaha Falls is considered by the locals the best falls in Rabun County. This particular Minnehaha is in the state of Georgia, and is not the famous Minnesota waterfall popularized by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Found west of Clayton, the 60 foot falls drops over layer upon layer of shale ledges and into a wide pool at its base. A visit to
Minnehaha is a great adventure for school age children, although the half mile path harbors a few toe-stubbing tree roots and a short flight of stairs. Adults will appreciate the mountain setting as both sides of the cascade are lined with rhododendrons that come into full bloom by early June.
The falls are found from old GA 441 (Lake Rabun Road). This twisting, narrow road follows the shoreline of Lake Rabun and passes dozens of summer cottages. Just before arriving at the Nacoochee Dam, Low Gap Road crosses the river and leads to Bear Gap Road. At this crossroads a small information sign, that's easily missed, points the way to the
Minnehaha Falls Trail. A steep set of stairs and narrow two-car pullout are the only clues to find the falls trailhead.
