This birds-eye-view from up on top of the Jupiter Lighthouse overlooks the Atlantic seacoast city of Jupiter. Rated as one of the Happiest Seaside Towns in America, Jupiter is the northernmost community of the Miami metropolitan area. Here at the mouth of the Loxahatchee River and Hobe Sound, it's easy to guess Jupiter residents and visitors have plenty of options to enjoy water related activities. The large break in the dunes, Jupiter Inlet, allows boat traffic easy access to clear tropical waters offshore. The deep blue seas of the Gulf Stream wait just off the coast where this powerful current averages three to six knots as it heads northward. Carrying warm tropical waters, the Gulf Stream varies in width from 20 to 60 miles. Along the edges of the warm water stream, where the waters mix, ocean anglers will find the hot spot for fishing action.
Overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway, the Jupiter Lighthouse is a prominent landmark perched atop a significant rise along the coast. Topping out at 150 feet above sea level, the lighthouse is open for public tours. The area, surrounded by the ocean and river channels, it's a haven for water lovers. Jupiter is tops for beach fun, water skiing, deep-sea fishing, jet skiing, sailing and inland canoeing through an enchanting cypress forest.
