Although late February is cold, blustery and snowy in the America’s capital city, it is usually springtime in the South and the Washington Nationals enjoy their spring training in rather balmy conditions. Located on Florida’s east coast, The Nationals kicked off their spring training schedule for another season in Palm Beach.
This birds-eye-view of Nationals Park, found in southeast Washington DC near the Anacostia River, captures a warmer time at National Park when the picturesque striped green grass spells out major league baseball excitement. The Nationals Park is not only a masterpiece of glass, steel and concrete, but also boasts the first major league park to capture a "green building silver certificate" status. The environmental friendly stadium, accredited with a leadership in energy and environmental design, lights up the crowd with a 600 foot long LED ribbon board, state-of-the-art video and audio technology, and a high definition 4500 square foot scoreboard.
Started as a MLB expansion franchise in 1969, the Montreal Expos were sold, moved to Washington DC, and dubbed the Washington Nationals in 2005. After spring training in Florida, the Nats usually head back to the capital in April for the home opener, welcoming the fans to the start of a new season of Major League Baseball. And perhaps another World Series title is in store.
