Scenic USA - Florida Heritage Village |
Photos by Ben Prepelka Ben Prepelka Photography |
On a mission to collect and preserve local Florida history, the Heritage Village houses over 30 vintage buildings in a park-like atmoshere. Shaded in tall pines, the Pinellas County living history museum covers 20 acres and is open to the public five days a week. While there is no entry fee, donations benefit Heritage Village operations.
This outdoor venue offers a varied collection of old homes, schools, a railroad depot, general store, auto repair, sponge warehouse, church and boat shop. All are spaced out along paved pathways, accompanied by storyboards with detailed historical information and old photos. Various programs keep school aged children engaged in a great outdoor setting. It's also a friendly learning environment for adults as well, especially those who enjoy Florida's early 20th century history.
