Tennessee, a land of waterfalls, is custom made for the hiker, photographer Top of Ozone Falls - Crab Orchard, Tennessee or weekend sightseers. Scattered over two-thirds of the state, an unofficial count includes more than 500 waterfalls. Most are located in the east along the Cumberland Plateau and in the Appalachian Mountains.
Ozone Falls is located in a 43-acre natural area in Cumberland County. Because the waterfall is in the neighborhood of Interstate 40 near Crossville, Ozone Falls State Natural Area is a popular stop for all levels of waterfall fans. Within an Trail view of Ozone Falls - Crab Orchard, Tennessee earshot of U.S. Route 70, Ozone Falls plunges 110 feet over a sandstone cap rock into a deep blue, rock-strewn pool.
A roadside trail leads to the top of Ozone Falls were it plunges 110 feet over a sandstone cap rock into a plunge-pool. Following a tight trail just above Rt 70, hikers will soon find it's not an easy task to descend to the waterfall base where Fall Creek disappears under a boulder field from the plunge pool and re-emerges a few yards downstream. An impressive amphitheater can be seen behind the falls where visitors may walk behind the waterfall. There are no guardrails around the falls, no protective devices, and waterfall explorers should exercise caution when in this natural area. Interstate travelers should exist at Crab Orchard and follow Rt 70 east.
