The Peach State

Hoping to stop Spanish expansion from Florida, Georgia was established as the last of America's original 13 colonies. Early plantations flourished, growing crops of rice, indigo and cotton. The state, devastated during the Civil War, was able to rebound from Sherman's March to the Sea, becoming a major commercial hub in the southeast.
Georgia's diverse topography ranges from eastern seaside resorts to the lofty Blue Ridge Mountains in the north. The state's temperate climate, ten nationally run parks sites, a dozen scenic byways and 62 state parks offer countless ways to enjoy outdoor actvities. For history buffs a dozen historic covered bridges, six Atlantic Coast lighthouses, Civil War battle sites and old Savannah will keep you busy.
