New England's most famous Mystic River is captured in this marvelous autumn reflection scene. The intriguing Mystic name evolved from the Wampanoag's Muhsuhtug, meaning big river. Found in the quiet corner of Connecticut, the river splits the Mystic zip code and the towns of Groton and Stonington. Mystic Seaport Replica LighthouseIts connection to Fishers Island Sound and the Atlantic lead to an early development as a ship-building and fishing area. The historic seafaring towns, Groton and Stonington, date back nearly 300 years.
A big draw to the Mystic area is the Living History Museum, its tall ships, and the ever present New England charm. Historic downtown Mystic, on West and East Main streets and spanning the Mystic River, welcomes its visitors, offering information, tours and city maps. Attractions also include Olde Mistick Village, The Mystic Aquarium, and a handful of charming lighthouses.
