One of eight parklands on the 70,000 acre Strom Thurmond Lake, Strom Thurmond Lake Hickory Knob Resort Park is best known for its championship golf course. Here along the border with Georgia, the lake and the park's hilly terrain create a peaceful setting for the golf course and other types of outdoor recreation. While camping and boating activities are popular on the waterfront, mountain biking, skeet shooting, archery and tennis are more of the park's popular activities. A lodge-style hotel and full-service restaurant round out the park's main features.
Relocated to the park in 1983, the Guillebeau House is one of those unexpected finds at Hickory Knob Resort Park Golf Course Hickory Knob. Built in the 1770s, the historic Guillebeau House followed a typical French Creole or Huguenot style. Today, the original two room log cabin is nearly obscured by room additions and porches. Although an English influence may be seen in the chimney, the architectural details are primarily French. Built in South Carolina's McCormick County, the home was originally owned by the New Bordeaux resident Andre Guillebeau. An archeological study was done in 1978 before the home was moved to the park.
