Pablo National Wildlife Reserve

Pablo National Wildlife Reserve

Pablo National Wildlife Reserve is part of the beauty found in Montana's Mission Valley. Here on the Flathead Indian Reservation this small refuge was setup to protect the breeding grounds for native birds. Waterfowl are plentiful on the 1,800 acre reservoir. It's common to see coots, ducks and geese. A trumpeter swan release in 1996 has proven to be successful.
The surrounding shoreline band of 690 acres provides access for bank fishing. Certain times of the year, during breeding season, sections of the wetlands are off-limits.
Reservoir access, two mile south of Polson, is gained from U.S. Route 93 and Route 212. The unimproved refuge is managed by the Montana State Fish and Wildlife Service, in conjunction with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
