Officials, working at Utah's Arches National Park, reported a rare occurrence among its 2,000 plus natural arch features. Appearing in the news around the States, Wall Arch, adjacent the Devils Garden Trail, has given in to gravity and surprisingly collapsed. The rock arch spilled its rubble onto the sandy pathway. The popular 71 foot span is gone, once number 12 of the largest park features.
Quite different from the magician's ploy, now you see it, now you don't, this arch is not coming back. Geologists indicate the remaining legs will continued to crumble, posing further concerns of falling debris along the Devils Garden Trail (map).
This view shows a healthy Wall Arch, so close to the trail a fish-eye lens was required. Luckily, there were no witnesses to this event and now will cause visitors some hesitation when climbing in and around the park's main features.
