Sometimes called the gateway to Glacier Peak Wilderness, the Entiat River is surrounded by Wenatchee National Forest land and leads into the heart of the Cascade Range. The river’s headwaters begin their decent from the Glacier Peak Wilderness area of Mount Maude and Seven Fingered Jack, heading southeast toward the Columbia River and the town of Entiat. The Entiat flows past more colorful named points, including Tinpan Mountain and Spectacle Buttes. Up-river, Entiat the flows through a narrow canyon, shaded by steep sided walls. This rugged mix of shallow riffles and deep pools not only entice anglers, but kayakers and whitewater enthusiasts.
   Above Entiat Falls, the river is open to anglers for rainbows, cutthroats and eastern brookies. Entiat River Road follows the river for over 30 miles to the falls. In this scene river valley cottonwoods are drenched in a rich orange glow, brightening the waters of the Entiat. Don’t expect to find a Holiday Inn Express along this route, but a handful of campgrounds are available, although some require reservations.
