Hune Bridge

Hune Bridge

Photos by Ben Prepelka

Just south of Bloomfield, along Ohio's Route 26, are stops 5 and 6 of the Covered Bridge Hune InnByway. The Hune Inn and bridge offer up a look into Ohio's past, dating back 130 years.
The one lane Hune Bridge (35-84-27) looks in fine condition after its 1998 refurbishment. Surviving flood waters in 2004, 2005, the bridge faired very well compared to the Rinard Bridge,Oil Well Pump a few miles to the north. A Little Muskingum River access point and park are located to the east of the Hune Bridge. An oil well pump display brings attention to Ohio's birth of the petroleum industry. Some area wells still provide a limited quantity of devil's grease, first discovered in 1814.
The Hune Inn, an area landmark for over a century, took in boarders beginning in the late 1800s. The tradition will continue today, as the Hune Inn is under remodel as a bed and breakfast.
