Since the completion of Glacier National Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road, Running Eagle Falls - Glacier National Park, East Glacier, Montana a 50 mile engineering marvel, the park's Two Medicine section has taken a backseat. During the late 1800s, before the existence of the park's east to west alpine road, Two Medicine was the most popular destination in the park. The name was attributed to two Native American ceremonial lodges, and today Two Medicine is still one of the most sacred areas to the Blackfoot Indians.
This marvelous reflective view of Two Medicine Lake captures the middle lake in a chain of three, all connected by the Two Medicine River. The Two Medicine park road, less than five miles long, ends near the eastern edge of the lake Lower Two Medicine Lake - Glacier National Park, East Glacier, Montana and Running Eagle Falls. The Two Medicine campsite is also located here at lakeside. The campsite store and boat launch add a few modern conveniences for Two Medicine campers. Scenic boat tours and casual boaters make up the majority of boat traffic. Not known for its fishing, the lake chain receives little pressure, providing anglers a good chance at its brook and rainbow trout. Fishing Upper Two Medicine Lake may be more of a challenge, requiring a four mile hike to the lake. This scenic trail follows the Two Medicine River and leads to more waterfalls and a campground at the Upper Lake.
