The Gold West Country of Southern Montana, noted for its rich deposits of gold and gemstones, stretches across the state from Augusta to Lima. This area, filling the gap between Yellowstone and Glacier national parks, boasts a colorful history found in its well preserved ghost towns, mining camps and museums. The mountain valleys are also famous for beautiful streams and picturesque lakes, the perfect spot for anglers needing to bone-up on new fishing tales and yarns.
Bean Lake, pictured here, is one of those jewels found in the Gold West Country, squeezed between Augusta and the Scapegoat Wilderness of the Front Range. The 17 acre site includes the necessary boat ramp, plenty of campsites, with half the lake open for shoreline fishing. Found 15 miles from the small town of Augusta, the lake lies in an isolated spot, making a pleasant place for a weekend get-a-way.
