Red Peak

Summit County's Red Peak

Often times a Rocky Mountain's narrative delves into the area's geology, some impressive mountain height figures, or a multitude of recreation possibilities. What's not mentioned is simply sitting back and soaking up the imposing grandeur of these Rocky Mountains. The stark beauty of these sharp, granite peaks can be enjoyed throughout the year from Colorado's numerous Scenic Historic Byways. Colorado has designated 23 special routes, with some as close to heaven as you will ever find.
This grand Rocky Mountain scene demonstrates the beauty found in Summit County's Red Peak. The descriptive name is associated with numerous mountains and describes rock, stained with iron oxide, giving off a slight reddish hue. These Summit County peaks take in some of the tallest mountains peaks along the divide, and some of the state's most spectacular scenery.
