   Spring returns once again to Dillard, Georgia, with some of the first signs seen here at the Dillard House. Plantings of colorful tulips and daffodils signal winter is just about over, Petting Zoo Kid - Dillard House, Dillard, Georgia and the days begin to be noticeably longer. The gardeners have kept busy, seeing that the grounds around the original stone house, as well as the cottages and chalets create a special Blue Ridge Mountain experience.
   The Dillard house land grant dates back to 1794. For his service during the Revolutionary War, Captain John Dillard was awarded 1000 acres in northeastern Georgia. Tucked in the picturesque Little Tennessee River Valley, history has Captain Dillard making peace with the Cherokee Indians and trading a muzzle-loader, a jug of brandy, a coonskin cap and three dollars for all the land between two mountain tops. The Dillard heirs went on to established the Dillard House in 1917, providing southern style home cookin' and hospitality. Petting Zoo - Dillard House, Dillard, Georgia Carrie and Arthur Dillard treated guests just like family, and passed on their ideas of hospitality and impeccable service to their children and grandchildren.
   Nearing the century mark, the Dillard House has entertained a long list of famous people from Lady Bird Johnson to Walt Disney. Along with the family style restaurant, the Dillard House has become a major tourist attraction, with hotel rooms, cozy cottages and mountain chalets. Guests may enjoy the swimming pool, tennis courts, trout fishing, horseback riding and a kid friendly petting zoo.
